The need for all Christians especially
catholic faithful to allow Holy Spirit to guide and direct their actions has
been stressed by Archbishop Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin of Ibadan Archdiocese.
He said this on Saturday 11th September, 2021 while delivering homily at Our Lady of Fatima Academy Iwo where he administered sacrament of confirmation on 50 candidates. The confirmation candidates consist of 31 students of Regina Mundi Girls’ Secondary school Iwo, 15 students of Our Lady of Fatima Academy and 4 members of St Anthony Iwo.
Archbishop added that if the Spirit of God is upon us we should be able to live in peace, obey rules and regulations, and also advise one another. He then charged the confirmation candidates to lead good life, hold on to the catholic faith and able to teach younger ones because they are now soldiers of Christ.
He asked some questions about the catholic faith from the candidates. Questions like; why do we light candles in the church? And, why bishop and priests wear red vestments during confirmation? And the students answered correctly. They said, the lighted candles signify the presence of Christ and that red is the symbol of the Holy Spirit.
Speaking further, His Grace observed that our country is now lacking mentors as there are few people we can emulate unlike before. And he admonished the candidates who are all students to learn good morals from their parents and to put all the training they received in school to use, and also to be good ambassadors of their schools and of the church wherever they go.
He also shared his recent experience with a former student of Regina Mundi Girls’ school Iwo who is doing her I T very close to his office in Ibadan. The archbishop said the lady is a devoted catholic who goes to the church daily to pray before going for lunch.
The archbishop then thanked all the staff of the two schools for imparting good values and right knowledge to the students. He also applauded student’s choir for singing very well and all the students for their comportment throughout the Mass.
At the confirmation Mass, Archbishop Abegunrin concelebrated with Rev. Fr. Felix Emerue Principal of Our Lady of Fatima Academy, Rev. Fr. Bernard Azeez director of Offer Centre and Rev. Fr. Michael Olayemi associate priest of St Anthony Iwo.
